Why homeowners choose vinyl liner

Built to your yard's exact shape.

Custom shape & size

The wall system is set to the shape your lot actually calls for — a lap lane along a fence, a curve around a tree, a depth change that fits how your family swims — not a fixed manufacturer form.

Lower upfront cost

A vinyl liner pool typically costs less to build than a one-piece shell of the same size, which opens up a larger pool or more budget for decking and landscape.

Smooth, soft-touch surface

The liner itself is smooth underfoot and comfortable to lean against, and it's replaced on its own schedule without touching the wall structure underneath.

How we build your vinyl liner pool

Every step, planned before the excavator arrives.

A vinyl liner pool is framed and fitted on site, which is exactly why sequencing matters — wall system, plumbing and liner fabrication all have to line up before the water goes in.

01

Site Planning

We lay out the pool's exact shape, decking, equipment pad and drainage against your property's grade before anything is marked in the yard.

02

Excavation & Wall System

The site is excavated to your custom shape, and the steel or polymer wall panels are set and braced to that exact footprint.

03

Plumbing & Equipment

Plumbing lines, skimmers and equipment are run and pressure-tested before the floor and liner go in.

04

Liner Fabrication

Your liner is fabricated to the pool's exact final dimensions and fitted into place — no off-the-shelf sizing.

05

Backfill & Decking

Backfill is placed in stages alongside the fill of the pool, then decking and coping are set to the wall's edge.

06

Hardscape & Landscape

Patios, plantings and grading around the pool are built as one environment, coordinated with our Outdoor Living & Hardscape division.

07

Outdoor Lighting

Pool, path and landscape lighting are planned together so the space reads as one composition after dark.

08

Walkthrough & Water

We start the pool up, balance the water and walk the finished environment with you before handing over care instructions.

Beyond the liner

The complete backyard environment.

A vinyl liner pool is one piece of the project. Water features, decking, lighting and landscape planned around it turn a pool into a finished environment, not a standalone object dropped in the yard.

Questions

Vinyl liner pool installation, answered.

How long does a vinyl liner last?

A vinyl liner is a wear item that's replaced on its own schedule over the life of the pool — how long depends on water chemistry, sun exposure and care. We'll walk you through realistic expectations for your specific pool.

Can a vinyl liner pool be any shape?

The wall system can be built to most custom shapes and depth changes your lot allows, which is the main advantage over a manufactured shell. Some very tight or unusual footprints may still need a site visit to confirm.

Vinyl liner or fiberglass — which is right for me?

It depends on your yard, budget and the shape you want. A vinyl liner is built to a fully custom shape; fiberglass arrives as a manufactured shell. Read our fiberglass pool page or read more in our comparison article, or just ask us directly.
